We went to The Minokaua one saturday night and sampled some of their food. If you will try to check their social media accounts they seldom post about their dishes, all you can see is the schedule of bands who will perform for the upcoming week. I have tried countless restobar in my life and I was amazed that Minokaua caters good food and even provides good music to their customers.
Despite that the Chicken Chicharones (P300) was already cold (blame it to ourselves for taking pictures) it is still crunchy and appetizing. It comes in bite-sized pieces and you wouldn’t even get bored of taking a bite one after another. A must-try especially if you plan to have your chill night at The Minokaua.
Speaking of chill night, it’s not complete without getting any alcoholic drinks right? Choices are beers, wines, liquors and their Original Bottled Cocktails (P280). We tried three kinds of it and we actually liked it. It feels like you’re drinking a fruit juice with a hint of alcohol in each bottle. Perfect to order if you have girls in the group. I’m spending that night with my wife and our friend and they also enjoyed it.
We had Wilted Taiwan Pechay, garlic, grilled tomato, fried egg (P240) as our meal starter. At initial glance I find this as an ordinary vegetable dish but I was surprised that they made a twist to this salad. There’s some spices in the Pechay that’s addicting.
We arrived around 6PM just in time for dinner, we had the Minokaua Sisig Rice (P880) served in a pealla pans. Until now, I’m still craving for this dish. The rice has flavor that will not give you any “umay’ taste and the sisig on top were perfectly crunchy and spicy. The two combinations that you can’t resist.
Actually the Sisig Rice is more than enough for our dinner we even didn’t finished it all because it comes in big serving. I think it can even be shared up to 5 people. We also had the Laksa Style Mussels (P850), Minokaua is very particular with the quality of their dishes and they even import the mussels outside the country. You will noticed that it is big enough than the usual mussels sold in the market. The laksa was good especially when it’s still hot. It comes with a slices of garlic bread that’s perfect match for dipping in laksa.
We’re almost full but when we saw the Grilled Ensaymada Ice Cream Melt (P320) we can’t say no to this monster dessert. I never tried this kind of dessert and what can I say that whoever invented this dessert is a genius!
Minokaua is continuously updating its interior ( they just opened last May), you will find it simple and homey. Soon they will convert the ground floor into a co-working space while the second floor has its own bar and a small stage for live band performances. There’s also a loft that can be rented out by a small group.
I must say that our trip to Minokaua was worth it because we were able to bond over good food and jazz music that night.
